Conversation 43: The Story, Journey and Passion of Heather Osby

“If I am in it, then I am all in it. I was working out 4 days a week, doing CrossFit, some yoga and barre and I just wanted to be healthier and do more. If a little is good then a lot must be better right? So I was exposing myself to a lot of semi-questionable nutrition sources and it got to the point where I was almost unhealthy with it. For example, (I believed) healthy was being a raw vegan. My thought process was nothing else was okay and I was really mentally unhealthy about that. That is what I thought you needed to be to be healthy.“ - Healthy Osby

My conversation today is with fitness expert, CrossFit Level 1 Coach, Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach and Postnatal Fitness Specialist, Heather Osby.

I have had the joy of knowing Heather when I moved to the beautiful city of Des Moines, Iowa, I was connect with her to be my house-hunting warrior. After looking at over 100 homes and then deciding to build, I think that's when she decided she didn’t want to be a real estate agent anymore. No, not really, but life took its tricks and turns and she currently has found her passion in the wellness and fitness world. She is currently a wife and a mom of two, kicking ass in her own garage gym, at her local CrossFit gym and focuses on helping moms all over the country find their own fitness passion, in a safe way. She specializes in pregnancy and postnatal fitness (insert diastasis recti) and even has her own pelvis model she named Nancy to best educate her clients. What I love about her the most is her down-to-earth approach on exercise and nutrition, her virtual business and website and the fact she likes to cuss a little.

A girl after my own heart, please enjoy my conversation with Heather.

Connect with Heather at heather@heatherosby.com and her business Hot and Healthy Life www.hotandhealthylife.com to work with Heather.

Even though her 2 week #MetconsforMoms challenge is over, you can still register here and get the workouts! Follow her on Instagram and see how fun it was. (My a** is still screaming at me!)

Conversation 42: The Story, Journey and Passion of Lori Graff, RDN, LD, CPCC, AFAA

“The first thing you have to do is, you have to keep an open mind...all the time. It is what got you where you are to start with, especially as dietitians. You had some sort of notion to say “hey, nutrition matters” where others weren’t saying that. So you are asking (the important) questions and the minute you stop asking questions like how and why something works, then you’re just going to be lost in the field of medicine right now.” -Lori Graff, RDN, LD, CPPC, AFAA

My conversation today is with Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Lori Graff.

Miss Lori Graff has always had me in awe of the wealth of knowledge she knows. She has more knowledge of health and nutrition in her pinky finger than I do in my whole brain. I admire this Registered Dietitian for being on the forefront of integrative health. She is a lifelong learner who is very passionate about disease prevention by taking the food and nutrition route first. I have known Lori for almost a decade now, but had no idea how her personal and family experiences has currently lead her to starting her own practice. She is innovative, educated and is open to new science and ways to practice and serve her clients. Everyone, this podcast is great and you will want to listen and learn as much as you can.

Please enjoy and absorb all my awesome conversation with Lori.

Conversation 41: Checking in with Jena Hunt, RD, LD

Today we are doing something a little different. Since I love talking with my favorite people, I am going to check in with some of my previous podcast guests from time to time. Wayyy back in October of 2016, I started this little labor of love and graciously had on my first guest, Jena Hunt. Jena was my first guest and she aired as Episode 1. If you listened to Episode 1, you remember Jena was expecting her first child at that time and starting a diabetes program. I thought it would be fun to see how things are going in her exciting world.

I hope you enjoy my conversation quickie with Jena.

Conversation 40: The Story, Journey and Passion of Lyndi Buckingham-Schutt, RD, LD

“It is so important to let them know what you do and who you are. Talking to someone, when you’re a dietitian, there is a lot more to that. I remember when I starting looking for jobs, I just can’t put into the search engine “Registered Dietitian” I needed to look at other things because maybe the job is not asking you to be a Registered Dietitian but it can fit into this role or bring something they didn’t know they needed into this role. With the position I am taking, it didn’t call for a Registered Dietitian but it’s going to benefit so much by having a Registered Dietitian doing that job.” - Lyndi Buckingham-Schutt, RD, LD

My conversation today is with Registered Dietitian, Lyndi Buckingham Schutt

I had a great conversation with Lyndi who is not only a Registered Dietitian, but she is a PhD candidate and graduate research assistant. She is currently working diligently on finalizing her thesis. Lyndi has volunteered her time with the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as Public Policy and State Policy Representative and has found a passion for policy. She will be working in public policy after she defends her thesis. Lyndi has a unique journey so far and I learned a lot from her story and experiences.

Please enjoy my conversation with Lyndi.
